Student Health Partnership (SHP) professionals are an essential part of the school team. They include staff that provide a range of emotional-behavioral supports and rehabilitation services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language therapy. These professionals may be called upon to work with a student whose needs are fairly straightforward, or to assist someone with more complex health needs who is being helped by other team members. Their role may involve them in everything from assessment, consultation, therapy, counseling, case conferencing, monitoring and follow-up.

The following describes the SHP's philosophy:

  • The student's needs are primary.
  • The work is carried out as a team, which includes parents/legal guardians, school team members and other health-care professionals.
  • SHP activities are integrated into the broad spectrum of services.
  • The student's success is promoted through effective communication and collaboration.

If you are a service provider seeking employment, please note that SHP funds positions through partners. Please refer to the careers or job opportunities link on each partners' web site.

Communication Guidelines:

All partners working collaboratively to meet a student's health-related learning needs acknowledge the following:

  1. Every parent/legal guardian has the right to contact the teacher and/or therapist directly to inquire about their child's progress and service plan.
  2. Existing supervisory/communication protocols of the partners will be used when communicating about SHP service delivery.
  3. The teacher(s), therapist(s), assistant(s) and parent/legal guardian(s) involved will develop a communication plan as part of the student's service plan.
